The Principles of Professional Leadership are the selection foundation for the Leadership IMPACT Award. I will be discussing each of the principles over the next few weeks.

Principle #1: Knowledge of who they are as a person and as a leader.

Leaders need to have an unbiased understanding of who they are as a person and as a leader. After all, if you don’t know who you are, how can you expect to lead others. People flock to learn how to be like leader X or Y when all they really need to be is them self. You can’t lead like me and I can’t lead like you.

Former T-Mobile CEO John Legere is a good example of this principle. He was uncomfortable as a “conventional” CEO. He felt insulated, overdressed and detached from his customers and employees. So he became the un-CEO wearing sweats and sneakers while connecting with customers and employees through a variety of means, including his Slow Cooker Sunday events.

Nominate an exceptional leader today for the 2020 Professional Leadership IMPACT Award. This award is presented to the individual(s) who best exemplify these principles. Nominations are being accepted through 6/30/20 at proleadershipacademy.com/impactaward.
