“True leadership is revealed in the time of a crisis!”
– J. Bryan Bennett

In 2020, leaders were challenged by numerous crises, including a global pandemic, racial injustice and changing business models. This has been a stressful time for the many executives I regularly talk to and for many of the people who work for them.

That’s why the Elite Leadership Academy decided to add “Leading During a Crisis” and “Leading With Diversity & Inclusion” categories to the “Special Leadership Topics” section of our Leadership Resource Library. Like all of our categories, these libraries include some of the top leadership resources curated from leading online sources. The Ethics of AI in Healthcare

I’m looking to participating in this panel discussion on September 29th for #aimed. There are no #AI shortcuts to #aihealthcare. Like anything else, you have to build a solid foundation to be successful. I discuss many of these concepts in my book Competing on Healthcare Analytics and in my analytics classes at Northwestern University School of Professional Studies.

Call It What It Is: Anti-Blackness

I encourage you to read this masterful piece from the NY Times by my colleague and Northwestern scholar Kihana Miraya Ross on anti-blackness.

Anti-blackness describes the inability to recognize black humanity. It captures the reality that the kind of violence that saturates black life is not based on any specific thing a black person did. The violence we experience isn’t tied to any particular transgression. It’s gratuitous and unrelenting.

4th Principle of Professional Leadership

Category : Leadership

The 4th Principle of Professional Leadership is “An abundance of the innate leadership qualities of humility, empathy, vision and risk-taking (and the instinct when to use each).”

Although everyone can be taught leadership, the best leaders have that little something extra that sets them apart. That ‘something extra’ component is usually a number of innate leadership qualities, some that can be taught, but the best leaders have an abundance of these qualities innately. The more innate qualities a leader has, the higher their leadership ceiling which is what separates a good leader from an elite level leader.

Nominate an elite level leader today for the 2020 Professional Leadership IMPACT Award. Nominations are open until 7/17/20.

3rd Principle of Professional Leadership

Category : Leadership Training

The 3rd Principle of Professional Leadership is “A thorough understanding of the situational influences that impact leading their followers and the environment in which they lead.

Leaders need to closely watch for changes in their situational influences. These could be from primary influences such as their followers or the environment or secondary influences from peers or superiors. Changes in any of these influences requires an immediate response in the manner in which the leader executes their leadership.

2nd Principle of Professional Leadership

Category : Leadership Training

The 2nd Principle of Professional Leadership is “Awareness of those moments in a leader’s life that shaped them to become the leader they are.”

Leaders must know those defining moments in their life that shaped them into the leader they became. It could be successfully facing a challenging situation, a mentor who took them under their wing or sadly, a tragedy. This knowledge helps leaders understand their underlying beliefs and how they influence decisions, guide problem-solving and drive behavior.

10 Principles of Professional #Leadership – #1: Knowing Yourself

Category : Leadership Training

The Principles of Professional Leadership are the selection foundation for the Leadership IMPACT Award. I will be discussing each of the principles over the next few weeks.

Principle #1: Knowledge of who they are as a person and as a leader.

Leaders need to have an unbiased understanding of who they are as a person and as a leader. After all, if you don’t know who you are, how can you expect to lead others. People flock to learn how to be like leader X or Y when all they really need to be is them self. You can’t lead like me and I can’t lead like you.
